"The Emancipation of Mimi" finishes 2005 as the year's best seller
The Emancipation of Mimi is the best selling album of the year, according to Nielsen SoundScan,
moving slightly less than 4.97 million copies!
Billboard Magazine writes: Carey Passes 50 Cent
Mariah Carey's
The Emancipation of Mimi indeed overtakes 50 Cents "The Massacre" as the best-selling album of calendar year 2005.
Her
game of catch-up is impressive, considering that "The Massacre" had a six week head start and was the only album this year
to ring a 1 million-plus frame. The rapper's set had already sold more than 2.9 million units before "Mimi" reached stores.
Congratulations
Mariah! |

Mariah's Ten Dollar Bill
When the U.S. Treasury recently unveiled it's new $10 bill Money magazine
wasn't that impressed so they asked some of the world's most creative people if they could do better and if interior designer
to the stars, Mario Buatta had his way we would all be working around with Mimi in our pockets...
Who is the "10"
of today? Mariah Carey! Her voice, her talent, her beauty...WOWEEE!!! Theory: I always thought money should be launderable
(not "laundered"). I can still hear my mother saying, "wash your hands after you touch money". I put my allowance in the washing
machine and low and behold it was gone down the drain. So: SAVE THE TREES and print it on cotton or silk that can be dry-cleaned-longer-lasting
(not in my pocket!) and free from germs. -Mario Buatta

Mariah Gets 17th #1!!!!
MARIAH CAREY’s “DON’T FORGET ABOUT US” HITS #1 !!! HER
17th #1 ON HOT 100 – TIES ELVIS PRESLEY’s RECORD !
IT’S OFFICIAL – RIAA NAMES THE EMANCIPATION
OF MIMI BIGGEST-SELLING ALBUM OF 2005, AT 5x-PLATINUM AND OVER 8 MILLION WORLDWIDE
(Dec. 21, 2005 – New
York, NY) Performer and songwriter Mariah Carey, whose 5x-platinum Island Records album The Emancipation Of Mimi generated
8 Grammy nominations, earns her 17th #1 career single this week for “Don’t Forget About Us” – to tie
one of the most enduring chart records in Billboard Hot 100 history, Elvis Presley’s 17 #1’s, it was announced
today by Antonio “L.A.” Reid, Chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group.
The news arrives in the wake of another
historic announcement – that Mariah will be the first live performer on Times Square in the 34-year history of ABC Television’s
“New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” spectacular, when she takes the stage next Saturday night, December 31st.
The broadcast marks the welcome return of host Dick Clark to the show he pioneered.
Both announcements follow up Monday
night’s Radio Music Awards, at which Mariah was honored with the Legend Award and was named Artist of the Year/Urban
and Rhythmic Radio, in addition to “We Belong Together” winning both Song of the Year/Main Stream Hit Radio and
Song of the Year/Urban and Rhythmic Radio.
Meanwhile, with “Don’t Forget About Us” in its first
week at the top, Mariah now logs 76 total career weeks at #1, which ranks second only to Presley’s 79 weeks. And she
is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 47 years of the Hot 100 with the potential to match or surpass
the Beatles’ all-time high 20 #1 hits.
With a total weekly radio audience over 145 million, “Don’t
Forget About Us” – written and produced by Mariah and Jermaine Dupri – is Mariah’s third consecutive
#1 with total audience airplay, following “We Belong Together” and “Shake It Off.” “Don’t
Forget About Us,” her 10th overall #1 R&B hit since 1990, hits #1 on the R&R (Radio & Records) Mediabase
Rhythmic chart and #1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Monitor – which now ties Mariah with an all-time high of 5 #1’s
for a female on the Monitor. At the same time, the song debuts at #1 on the Digital chart, after last week’s Internet
retail roll-out made it available as a digital download for the first time. Five different remixes of the tune, each one exclusive
to a separate digital retailer – iTunes, MSN Music, Napster, Real/Rhapsody, and Yahoo! Music Engine – contributed
to the single’s surge to #1.
The Emancipation Of Mimi has sold more than 8 million copies world wide, bringing
Mariah’s career sales over 160 million units world wide. Mimi generated Grammy Award nominations across the board in
several areas, including the General Field (Record Of the Year and Song of the Year for “We Belong Together,”
and Album Of the Year), and the Pop Field (Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “It’s Like That”). In the
R&B Field, “We Belong Together” was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song,
“Mine Again” was nominated for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance, and Mimi was nominated for Best Contemporary
R&B Album. Grammy winners will be announced on Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at Staples Center in Los Angeles, broad cast
on the CBS television network (and around the world), 8:00-11:30 p.m. (EST/PST).
Mariah’s Grammy Awards nominations
follow her string of wins over the past month, starting at the 33rd annual American Music Awards (where was voted Favorite
Soul/Rhythm & Blues Female Artist by the 20,000 record-buyers whose votes determine the winners); followed by the 3rd
annual VIBE Awards, where Mariah won for Artist Of The Year, Album Of The Year, R&B Voice Of The Year, and Best R&B
Song for “We Belong Together,” the most awards won by any individual artist this year. At the 2005 Billboard Music
Awards, Mariah was named Top R&B Singles Artist-Female, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Artist-Female, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums
Artist-Female, and Top Overall Albums Artist-Female, with “We Belong Together” named the #1 Hot 100 Single Of
the Year.

WHY YOU'LL REMEMBER 'FORGET'
Fred Bronson of Billboard.com writes:
It was already Mariah Carey's most successful year on the charts, but she manages to pull
off one final stunning achievement in the very last week of 2005 by moving into pole position on the Billboard Hot 100 with
her 17th No. 1 song.
"Don't Forget About Us" becomes the No. 1 song that ties Presley's 17 chart-toppers, putting
Carey and Presley into a tie for second place among artists with the most No. 1 hits in the rock era, behind the Beatles'
20.
Presley secured his 17th No. 1 the week of Nov. 1, 1969, when "Suspicious Minds" marched into first place.
The Beatles collected their 20th No. 1 the week of June 13, 1970, when "The Long and Winding Road" / "For You Blue" reached
the summit. The standings of the top two artists with the most No. 1 songs has not changed since then, so by tying Presley,
Carey has altered a record that has stood for 35 years, six months and three weeks.
Presley first topped the Billboard
pop singles tally the week of April 21, 1956, with his debut chart entry, "Heartbreak Hotel." It took him 13 years, six months
and two weeks to rack up his 17 No. 1s. Carey first led the Hot 100 the week of Aug. 4, 1990, with her initial chart entry,
"Vision of Love." It has taken her 15 years, four months and four weeks to amass her 17 No. 1 songs.
"Don't Forget
About Us" is Carey's 16th No. 1 as a songwriter. She already held the title of the female songwriter with the most No. 1 hits
in the rock era. With her 16th song to achieve pole position, she ties Barry Gibb for third place on the list of the songwriters
with the most No. 1 hits. Only Paul McCartney with 32 and John Lennon with 26 have more.
"Don't Forget About Us"
is the eighth No. 1 of 2005 on the Hot 100. That's the fewest amount of chart-topping titles in a calendar year since 2002,
when seven songs moved to the head of the class. There were 11 No. 1 songs in 2003, and the same number in 2004.
"Don't
Forget About Us" is the fourth No. 1 song this year by a solo female artist, following Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl," Carey's
"We Belong Together" and Carrie Underwood's "Inside Your Heaven." Carey is the only artist to have two No. 1 songs on
the Hot 100 in 2005. |

MARIAH ON FIRE!!!!
Entertainment Weekly writes: It's been a grim year, with album sales down nearly 10% from 2004. But it's not all bad
news. There were some notable winners.
Winner: Mariah Carey - By shifting focus to The Voice and the sort of
hooks that made her a '90s pop queen, she scored the comeback of the year. "Mariah has never been given enough credit for
songwriting," says Universal Records prexy Monte Lipman. "She's sold over 100 million records and suddenly she's an underdog."
Guess Glitter served her well after all.

Back Atop The Charts Her Way!
The Los Angeles Times writes:
LAS VEGAS — The photographers were screaming for Mariah Carey on Tuesday night
the way they used to. They jostled to catch her eye backstage at the Billboard Music Awards, and she vamped and smiled while
holding a metal bouquet — she had won five awards, more than any other artist, and she was clearly thrilled.
She
has the most played song of the year, We Belong Together, and the second-bestselling CD, The Emancipation of Mimi,
a reference to her new sense of freedom and the nickname her friends still use for her. At midyear, she became the first act
since the Beatles to have the No. 1 and No. 2 songs on American radio in the same week. In recent weeks, she circled the globe
— London, Berlin, New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas — to collect awards and a measure of satisfaction.
"I'm
not going to miss a moment of this," she said "I have a lot to celebrate."
Carey's comeback arc can be viewed as a
tale of personal redemption or as another lesson in the mercurial nature of the music business. There have been many pop comebacks
before, but Carey's is most comparable to Frank Sinatra's tumble to the career carpet in the late 1940s and his mid-1950s
return to grace. Like Carey, Sinatra's fall was met with glee in many quarters, and he was written off despite his world-famous
voice.
"Like Sinatra, Mariah has a voice for the ages," said L.A. Reid, chairman of Island Def Jam Music Group, which
includes Island Records, where Carey's comeback has taken place. "I never doubted that she would have success again. With
that instrument, it's just a matter of getting the right music and the right moment."
